Having faced a challenging past and dealing with autism and bipolar disorder, EDM played a crucial role in preventing suicidal thoughts and lifting my spirits. Since then, I have found purpose in aspiring to become a DJ. I am confident that numerous DJs share a similar background of overcoming personal struggles through their connection with EDM. EDM has high vibrational frequencies that heal the body, mind, and spirit. Regrettably, for certain individuals, their mental well-being may be too inadequately addressed for high frequencies to alleviate their concerns, but for most individuals, it works. Given Missouri's shortcomings in delivering accessible and high-quality physical and mental health care, it falls upon us as citizens to present EDM as a wholesome and natural substitute. This alternative can prove beneficial for individuals dealing with mental health issues and those struggling to achieve physical fitness. Personally, as someone unable to attend EDM festivals due to logistical and financial constraints, and also lacking in physical fitness, I've conversed with others in similar circumstances who share a unanimous agreement on this perspective.

Having attended church frequently during my childhood, I encountered the belief within some religions that listening to electronic music is associated with Satanism. In the biblical era, electronic music did not exist. Going to church attempted to turn me into someone I wasn't. Despite being labeled as "sinners" by those adhering to certain religious doctrines, individuals who appreciate electronic music argue that their actions align more closely with the principles of the Bible than many Christians. Like any other genre, electronic music consists of soundwaves, but some perceive the soundwaves and activities at EDM festivals as Satanic. It's important to recognize that all music is composed of soundwaves, and what may be considered a Satanic frequency could be found in Christian and gospel music as well. I personally believe in the potential of frequencies to both heal and harm, yet this perspective doesn't hinder my appreciation for electronic music. DJs also have been mixing EDM with Christian and gospel music.

They believe that introducing anything of that nature here would be deemed unacceptable. It's important to note, however, that their statements don't necessarily reflect the views of everyone around them. I want to prove them wrong.

The Problem with EDM in the Ozarks

The primary concern with EDM music in our locality stems from the perception that most people here categorize it as 'pop' music. Although pop and EDM share some similarities, it's essential to distinguish between the two. Pop is a broad term encompassing popular music genres like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, the Weeknd, and more. On the other hand, electronic music, including EDM, differs significantly from pop. While both genres often incorporate electronic instruments, electronic music, depending on the track, tends to have a consistent beat with minimal or no lyrics. Additionally, EDM frequently involves remixing other songs and vocals. Our population focuses more on what is consider pop, rock, and country rather than trying out new things. Most people around here are known for staying in their 'comfort zone' when it comes to music. Everyone around here is more focused on what they like than what else is out there. This could explain why that Springfield doesn't have an EDM radio station. There is an EDM scene here in Springfield, but it's not large enough to be able to have a festival. Most people in the Ozarks who know about the scene are the ones who like it. Our EDM scene is mostly made up of nightclubs and that it is still underground yet to be brought to life. As a native to the region, I didn't discover the beauty in EDM music until after Covid-19 hit, since then I listen to it almost every day and it lifted my spirits and gave me hope.
